QUOTE FROM THE RT REVEREND DOMINIC WALKER OGS, Bishop of Monmouth SHOOTING RITES, AND WRONGS!
The British Association for Shooting and Conservation, BASC, formerly known as the Wildfowlers Association, are one of the largest organisations in the world. We can only assume they changed their name to appeal to the public at large and therefore give their sport a more acceptable face. The use of the word conservation gives the impression they conserve wildlife, but we all know that they're only really interested in taking life. Okay, so a few will plant the odd tree, but then so do none shooters. Most members of BASC only care about using birds and animals as live targets. Letters to newspapers from shot gun enthusiasts often claim they shoot to help farmers be rid of so called pests. In truth hobby shooters couldn't care less about helping out their farmer mates - all they care about is having a fun day out with the lads and playing with their guns. The birds/animals they kill and in many cases maim are nothing to them, they're just fodder to feed their craving. These people shoot all kinds of birds deemed a pest, but the massive flocks of yester-year are disappearing at an alarming rate. Wood pigeons, a favoured pest for sport shooters are still fairly plentiful but they're not nearly as prolific as they were twenty years ago. We see more in towns these days. Some might say that it's a good thing but it's the slippery slope. The decline of many species (now protected) is the result of over shooting. But any shooting is an act of depravity unless it's done to put a suffering animal/bird out of it's misery. Crows are another favoured target for shooters. These creatures are highly intelligent and are now known to hold gatherings (funeral services) for fallen friends - no kidding! Yet they are slaughtered mercilessly by hobby shooters because some farmers claim they destroy their crops. You will find the odd farmer (I knew one) who doesn't mind them on his land because they eat beetles and other insects that can do a lot of damage to crops. But let's be clear, these birds are shot first for fun and second in the misguided belief that they're very destructive. Maybe they are a pest to some farmers, but there are things that a farmer can do to limit damage to his crops. Bird scarers that go off intermittently are excellent. I've seen these devices employed and they do work because I've seen tall healthy crops where these things were being used. If hobby shooters must enjoy playing with their guns then they should take up clay pigeon shooting. It's a sport that requires great skill, and I'm told is great fun. Far better than snuffing out some poor creature that's just trying to survive like the rest of us. BASC SUPPORTS SHOOTING SO CALLED PESTS, EVEN IN ARCTIC WEATHER. In a recent letter to a local paper, Debbie Collins, speaking on behalf of the British Association of Shooting and Conservation, BASC, claimed that there was nothing wrong with members shooting birds deemed a pest, even during the big freeze. Well I beg to differ! It would have to be a very heartless person who would take up arms against defenceless birds in harsh weather when these creatures are desperately trying to find food in order to keep warm and stay alive. According to a recent press release by another BACS spokesman, birds that can legally be shot include house sparrows, starlings, herring gulls, plus great and lesser black backed gulls. Yet these birds are in serious decline which is why England and Scotland removed starlings and house sparrows from most general licences in 2005, and herring gulls this year. Five years on and the Welsh Assembly are still dragging their feet which comes as no surprise, given their track record on persecuting birds and animals when they see fit. Collins also accused those
of us speaking out (against the killing of wildlife) of being animal rights extremists. Extremist
generally applies to people who have broken the law to achieve their aims and who pose a threat to public safety. Her statement
could be applied to hunt extremists, since there is plenty of proven evidence that some have resorted
to violence in defence of their barbaric blood-sports. But any comments from the kind of people who can take the lives of defenceless birds/animals for their own amusement, should be viewed with contempt! Please let's just have a Welsh Government that is for all the people and not just farmers, hunters and shooters. DRAG HUNTING - The humane alternative. The horses and doggies get their outings, the people enjoy the ride and the beauty of the countryside - and at the end of a good afternoon out - no animal is tormented and killed! Those who do not want or support this humane alternative can only be lovers of blood, torture and death. I recommend sending these videos to your local pro-hunting Tory candidates and asking them why they
want the cruelty when they can have all this!
FOX HUNTING - SPORT FOR THE CRUEL
Killing
with dogs is an outdated cruel sport, which has no place in any civilised society. Hunting also involves digging out terrified
foxes gone to ground. So please don’t vote for any MP or
candidate of any party that is willing to legalise the barbaric pastime of hunting with hounds. David Cameron has already admitted in the press that he supports the right of people to hunt with hounds.
We say that hunting with dogs is a grossly cruel ritual that causes immense suffering to the fox, leading to its violent death. It’s not unknown for a fox (having already been hunted) to be dug out, put in a sack and released again
ahead of the hounds. So petrified and stinking in her own blood and urine, she’ll be easy to track down by even the
most useless hounds. In other words, killing for entertainment is bloody barbaric. Note – Every new Tory Candidate and most Tory MP’s support a free vote to overturn the ban on
KILLING with dogs. IF the opinion polls are to
be believed, Britain could well have a Tory government with a massive majority in the summer of 2010. Let’s be clear
about what this could mean. It would certainly not mean a friendly hugging, vote blue go green, compassionate, David
Cameron administration. The people running the show don’t have any compassion. Blood lust is an addiction and addicts
will do all they can to get what they want.
Facts about foxes and hunting with houndsFact - Foxes are territorial and regulate their own numbers
according to food supply. Out of an entire fox family, only one vixen will mate with the dog fox. She will bully the other
vixens forcing them to stay away from the dog fox until their three-day period of heat is over. This ensures better survival
for her own cubs. Plus the other vixens will help to rear her babies. Many fox cubs will die in their first year of life.
Fact –
Foxes are omnivorous and will eat almost anything including earthworms, berries, rodents and rabbits, when
they can catch them. To any self-respecting farmer the fox is friend - not foe. Fact – Foxes rarely take live lambs,
the only time they will do so, is if they found a sick or abandoned lamb - though I have seen many a lamb that has died from
natural causes or bad husbandry, and weeks later the carcasses were still lying there - decomposed. Hill sheep are frequently
left on bleak hillsides to give birth on wintry landscapes., no wonder many lambs die of hypothermia. It’s so unfair
that foxes always get the blame for lamb losses. Keeping ewe’s indoors will minimise the risk to very young lambs from
either predators or freezing cold wet weather. Strange don’t you think that in this age of technology
we still don’t have any film proof of foxes killing lambs? Stray farm dogs account for more lamb deaths every year,
yet only the fox is ever demonised. Mind you, there’s no profit in hunting farm dogs is there? Fact – Foxes are killed solely for
entertainment. Hunters have long made claims that they control fox numbers, yet they were told by their pro-hunt
leaders within the Countryside Alliance (pre-ban) that fox numbers were down and so they were told to build artificial earths
to ensure there were enough foxes available for the hunt. Fact – Hunting is grossly cruel. The horrendous cruelty
towards foxes is well documented, but not widely known. Foxes suffer horrific cruelty at the hands of unfeeling
people. Hunts routinely use terrier-men to dig out foxes gone to ground. Plus vixens can be in cub as early as January, making
her trauma that much more compounded. She’s torn between running for her life and staying with her
cubs. Fact - Terrier-work
is the nastiest of all hunt cruelty, yet it plays a big part in mounted hunts and gun-packs. Whether it’s men
and women hunting on horseback or gun-packs with a pack of hounds, combined with a terrier section, this must be a most terrifying
experience for any animal unfortunate enough to get caught out. Fact – 1,500 fox- hound pups have already been bred in preparation for
Cameron’s repeal of the hunt ban. This means 1,500 middle-aged hounds will have to be got rid of
to make way for these younger fitter dogs. Older unwanted fox-hounds are usually shot dead and incinerated like so much rubbish.
To save our wildlife, there must be NO RETURN TO HUNT SADISM. Fact – Vixens are very caring towards their young. Did you know that foxes also wag their tails and whimper like pet dogs? So how can we allow them to be so cruelly tortured to death by those with no compassion? After all, you wouldn’t legally be allowed to treat pet dogs like this, so why foxes, deer and hares? BECAUSE THIS IS THE HORRIFIC TRUTH......!!!!!!!
THE EARTH WAS FURTHER CLEARED.By Mike Huskinson.
The earth was further cleared. Eventually by jamming the fox's head back with his spade he then pulled the struggling victim out grabbing it also by its brush. Twisting the fox on to its back he bowed its head to its backside. Out of sheer fear the fox urinated dousing its hind legs and brush. It was then dropped into a waiting sack held open by Stan and the others. "Call the hunt!" ordered Terry; everyone shouted. When after waiting some five minutes or more neither hounds nor riders appeared and a youngster was despatched down the hillside to try and find them. The fox was grunting, kicking and struggling in the sack. Terry warned Stan to keep a tight grip on it. Terry was in high spirits now and told the diggers to expect to see some real fun. " "With every escape avenue blocked the fox swung about and set off towards Birch farm. Bleeding and soaked in urine it emitted a scent that even the worst hounds in the world could track. On and on it went twisting and turning as best it could but it had suffered crippling injuries. It made one last vain attempt to lose its scent on the road before being caught in a garden."(undercover investigation into fox hunting http://www.acigawis.co.uk/toppage1.htm)
